I pulled the front half of the motor apart today AGAIN to set the cam timing AGAIN. I even put a new belt on it. The cam timing is now SPOT on.


It still runs like it has, which is shitty. the only thing i have done revently that had any kind of effect on how it ran was to take both upper pipes off the intercooler system and put a pipe directly between the turbo and the throttle body. Aside from being a complete dog because of the hot air coming into it, it ran fine. After a rev, it would go back to idle perfectly, under cruise the air meter door was steady with no flapping, and there was no sputtering noise under boost. After I reconnected the intercooler, it started acting like ass again. Regardless of bypassing th intercooler or not, it STILL builds almost 10 PSI in a neutral rev, and it will build 20PSI with the wastegate hooked directly to a boost referance. It shouldnt build more than mabey 1 or 2 psi with a hard free rev, and it should build only 10PSI with the wastegate hooked up direct like that.


I'm about to give the fuck up. If I could sell this thing for enough to buy another fucking car, I would.

The problem is that I cant fucking sell it like it is.... at least I cant sell it for any ammount of fucking money that would buy me another car.

Put another zero behind that and I can buy DRK's 83 Capris RS.... LOL


Yeah... increasing the volume between the turbo and the Throttle Body makes the air door bounce, therefore fucking with A/F CONSTANTLY. I have NO idea why it would do that.

The core is V 24x12x3, bar and plate, 2.5" inlet and outlet on the tanks. I'm not sure exactly the volume of the end tanks though.

so that is a HUGE cooler that you don't need. do you have a smaller cooler? of can you buy one that fits with out much change?

I dont have a smaller cooler, but I might be able to borrow one for testing purposes.

Honestly I was thinking that the added volume with the intercooler kit (and the subsequent shitty running) was a symptom of a problem... not the problem itself. I know of several other people running the stock turbo,intakes and throttle body that are running this very same intercooler kit without ANY issues.

Since the volume of the intake system is obviously the problem you can change it three ways;

Shorten IC piping or lengthen it somehow.

Smaller or larger intercooler.

Smaller or larger diameter pipe.

Are the guys that are running this successfully also using the exact same turbo you are using?
