| Hi all
Well as some of you know I got very very close to grabbing a 12 second time slip this weekend at Byron. (13.016@ 106MPH) I've pretty excited about this since it is a pretty mildly built 440. So where do I go from here? Besides the obvious of me eating a few less crispe creme donuts and sheding some lbs.
Here is the build again
440 bored 40 over 9.5:1 compression (aluminum heads) 770 street avenger carb Holley Street Dominator Intake ( single plane) 1 3/4 headers 727 MVB tranny 2600 PTC stall converter ( way too tight) 3:23 gears
3900 lb with driver and 1/4 tank gas
The way I look at it three options:
Bigger looser torque converter (4500 stall)
Finally bite the bullet and put the 3:91 gears back in the car instead of the 3:23's
slight engine mods bigger headers, bump up compression.
So I'm looking for some ideas and suggestions.. Thanks
Mike | |

| Personally, being only a little more than a hundreth away, I would just look for a way to temporarily shed a little weight while at the strip. Maybe take the back seats out? Maybe some other random things that can easily be removed then reinstalled. | |

| ive been messing with old carb magic cock pony for a long time. and IMHO........... lose the vacuum secondary carb and get a mechanical secondary carb and also a 3.73 gear should be perfectly fine.
also 4600 stall would be garbage ( other then the track)
easily would get you in the twelves

| well mike you have to decide your path for the car. is it more of a street car or more of a strip car in your future plans? If your looking to build a monster for the street and stip then gears are a great option. the 3.23's are a great gear for a street car or one that makes lots of torque may run a power adder and is a light car like my vette was. however i know you drive your car alot and drive it to the track 3.92's are going to suck for that part of it.
as for the stall 4600 would be trash 3000-3200 is about as loose as i would go. with some more specs on the motor like cam and what are the pistons IE forged cast hypers maybe a small shot of juice 75-100.

| also depending on the convertor that 2600 unit when hit with another 100hp of nitrous would jump the stall up a fair amount closer to the 2800-3000 mark. | |

| ^ LoL! Agreed. Well for me I would like to keep it streetable, but 3:91's with taller tires will still spin 65 mph with a 29 inch tire. The 4600 stall converter doesn't scare me for street use. A good quality one and would't even be able to tell it's that high a stall. I'm just not sure I want to fork over $500 for a torque converter.
Pete I would love to go this weekend, but it looks like rain both days. I'm thinking even with some cooler air I might get lucky.
Mike
ps anyone got an old holley double pumper laying around to borrow?

| * vehicle weight * engine power, and the details of the torque or horsepower curve * coefficient of friction of the tires on the track * aerodynamic drag * moment of inertia and frictional loss of moving parts * drivetrain gearing * shifting mechanisms * location of the vehicle's vertical and horizontal center of gravity * driver skill copy and pasted-its the list to go fast. | |

| Are you looking to go well into the 12's or atleast just cut a 12.99? Your a cunt hair away from that and if thats all your looking for I would look at the little things you can do for free. Take some weight out of the car. Run the car on very little gas. Try to get that 60' down just a bit more. | |

| Dude, KP is right though those little things add up. Took the supra from 16.01 to a 15.8 with just some trackside adjustments to weight | |

| Pete agreed, but I did all the track side adjustments possible. It was literally me and a 1/4 tank of gas! Thjis netted me an increase of .4 seconds from the week before by the way. I guess take out the passenger seat and the rear bumper!!! :cyclop 347 LX My 0 to 60 foot times were 2.0. Thanks, Steve and nightrunner for the carb help. (oh boy I'd salivate at the quick fuel 850!!! They are a marvelous carb. Bryan your right lots of factors to do it. We could always throw you in it, no offense I bet you weigh less then me by a few lbs. Mike | |

| Your not spinning on the leave what about more rpm? Take your front tires to max pressure for less rolling resistance..... | |

| You are leaving alot of head flow on the table with that small cam lift. Get that taken care of, give it a little steeper gear set. And enjoy the 12 second zone. | |

| true, what are you cam specs. ??? I would try the gear set and carb first...... BTW we did have a pretty big head wind that day... it prolly would've been in the 12's with out that. | |

| You have suspension mods and a tire right? Transbrake it, leave harder, the 60 drops, you're in the 12's. | |

| Run higher octane fuel and advance timing a bit? That should help a little. | |
