PostSubject: what should i do?   Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:54 pm

I'm looking to step up the program...... the current motor is an LT1 13:1 383 afr 210 heads srp pistons eagle rods 4340 crank current intake is carb dual plane but i have a super vic sitting here ready to be converted. cam is a solid roller 265 273 @ .050 650I 630E 110 LSA

Should I:

1. pull the motor convert the block to a 4 bolt put lower compression pistons in it HYD roller cam and put a turbo on it

2. Pull the motor convert the block to a 4 bolt freshen put a bottle on it and spray it

3. build a BAD LS N/A combo

4. stock LS swap with a turbo

easiest would probably be to 4 bolt it and spray it but should i do what is easy even though i really want boost since I'd rather have big N/A power or boost for the power since i want it there all the time. the turbo combo's will be the most drivable and make the most power. for a turbo i already have headers for a SBC

Stick it out and do what you really want to do. Only way to truly be happy with it. Besides all that........... FI LS for the win.

i guess i could have another option and that would be leave it as is and start buying parts to build an LS3 with a turbo but that will take a LONG time

i guess i could build a 496 with a stock block and it will make good power.....

I guess my biggest goal is to have good power all the time so either a bad ass N/A combo or a turbo blower combo....

hell if anyone has another idea im open

i don't think they make a roots style blower for an LT1......

I would say turbo ls6 if you can sell that lt1 for some decent coin. If you are going to be tearing down an engine and changing internal parts to support boost anyway then it might as well be on the best platform. The ls offers increased power and drivability. You will have to spend some big bucks on a large NA motor that will keep up with a well built turbo ls and the first time you lost to a boosted car you'll kick yourself and start looking at nitrous!

They do make roots blowers for lt1's. Magnacharger has a few models if I remember right. Here is a link I found quick. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-forced-induction-nitrous/2284647-if-i-put-a-roots-type-blower-on-an-lt1.html

I like big block idea, just good old fashion power. Keep it simple and you will not have issues. I personally like the 540 idea, but shot even 496 on a stock block is good sized.

Yet, if I were you the way you get gaga about the turbo idea. My gut tells me that would make you most happy Steve.

stock 4.8 or 5.3 with a single or twin truck manifold turbo setup with injectors & hp tuners. depending on how far past 500whp you wanna go id throw some rod bolts, mls head gaskets & head studs. an if you wanna be up in the 700 range get some rods & pistons. theres no other way to make big power for such little money.

grab the new hot rod an see what a junkyard 4.8 can do also i think it was jan or feb issue where they did a junkyard 5.3 that made something like 700 engine dyno hp for $3k using an ebay t4 70 trim & no intercooler.

my serious vote would be a $350.00 4.8 long block take out, pair of truck manifolds pair of ebay 70 trims 120lb injectors some e85 an let that bitch rip @ 15-20psi. if it pops fuck it, get another one the next day for $350 its win win.

Keep what you have, get your combo right, and spray the snot out of it. Build your next motor while having fun.

Yea. Keep the car together until you have the new combo together. More fun that way.

My advice is as follows.....

First off what do you want for power and what do you want the car to be (street, strip, street and strip, more street than strip, more strip than street).

Than take all the combs you are thinking of , sit down add up all the money it will take to do each (figure in everything down to the dollar) than multiply that by 2. Than figure what you don't need off your current set-up and what you can sell it for, than divided that number in 2.

Than add up all the pros and cons of all the combos.

Than figure out how long it will take to make the car what you want and multiply that number by 4.
