2013 Dodge Dart is the new Dodge CaliberDodge will resurrect the Dart name for its new Alfa Romeo-based compact car, set to debut at next month's Detroit Auto Show. The Dart will be the first Alfa Romeo-based Chrysler production car introduced in the United States. Arrivederci Caliber!

Based on Alfa Romeo's Giulietta platform, this spawn of the Fiat-Chrysler merger's going to be Chrysler's first decent attempt at winning over the ever-expanding compact space since the Dodge Neon.

Chrysler's promoting heavily the Dart's Alfa-underpinning as a way of saying "we know we haven't built a good compact car in more than a decade." The two images we have show an aggressive, Charger-derived appearance that's a large departure from the Giulietta.

Not surprisingly, Chrysler calls the American version the "Compact U.S. Wide" architecture, which is to say the Guiletta has been widened for fat American butts while retaining the Alfa's four-wheel independent suspension. It's also been turned into a sedan instead of a five-door hatch.

2013 Dodge Dart is the new Dodge CaliberPower will comes from a choice of three engines: a "Tigershark" 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine (similar to what's found in the Fiat 500), and the "Tigershark" 2.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder. There will be three transmission choices as well (some combination of manual and automatic). We hope the most powerful engine is tied to a six-speed manual transmission in the R/T model pictured above.

Chrysler also says the new Dart will be built in the company's Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois.

That multi-air shit is pretty cool.... The engine does not have an intake cam. Intake valve lift and duration is hydraulicly controlled...... Put that in your v-tech pipe and smoke it.

cant really tell what it will look like, but its got to be better than the neon.

in my opinion it seems like dodge ( or who ever is behind them) is really coming around. a lot of their new cars are actually really nice, ( quality) and looks are pretty good too.


however , do I think it deserves the "dart" name... NO

As JD said, I like the direction that the company is going, and I really like the newer styling of their vehicles, especially with the Challenger. That was an absolute grand slam in the looks department, and the new Charger isn't too shabby either.

^ except that one will be a 4cyl and it most likely won't knock your socks off when you drive it, therefor making it a pos.

WTF are you guys talking about? The base model, unmodified dart was a piece of shit cheap car that aftermarket moders made cool. Most of them even came with a sweet slant 6 and awesome all brown interior and exterior, not the fucking sublime green, big block cars you see rolling around today.

The dart was an awful car just like the neon was, trust me I owned one.

Aaaaaaand just to add one more facet of how smart dodge is to call this car the Dart, Chrysler originally used the dart name in 1956 for a the first car they co-produced with an Italian company called Ghia.

Now fast forward to 2013, the first car they co-produce with an Italian company (FIAT) will be called the Dart.

Very fitting I say.

Its crap, Dodge is Crap, and all 4 cylinder cars are janky pieces of shit that don't deserve to be on the road with the rest of the proper rear wheel drive v8 American cars.

All I ask is that companies don't dumb cars down, and produce a car that looks good, lets me feel the road, and doesn't lull me to sleep when I drive it. It doesn't need to "knock my socks off". I don't even care if it makes a decent amount of power, just give it a personality and character. Is that really so much to ask for? Even in a cheap econobox? I think that may be what Dodge is trying to accomplish with the "Dart".

Whatever. If they can put together an attractive non-shitty econobox then I ama all for it. As far as I am concerned, they did a pretty damn good job with my wifes Magnum. Rolled over 100k two weeks ago and it doesn't sound any shittier inside than it did at 50k. I hear lots of people talk shit about Dodge, but franky those new cars are real head turners.

The Dodge Demon (which was a Dart) was a movin mo fo for it's day in 71 with the 340 and even in 72 with the detuned 340 and looked badass. Anything similar to a Fiat is scrap at best.

I think it is cool the little motor that it will have. if it comes with the multiAir four-cylinder with a turbo there is no reason this thing can't make great power. pretty much unlimited intake cam profiles. they change intake open an closing points along with duration and lift adjustments. these are the things that older people only dreamed about. having a mild cam for cruising and a HUGE cam for making power or a small cam for low end power and it grows as RPM goes up and makes even more power up top.

I love dodge darts, even the four door ones which most despise, but people all ready know which companies nuts I swing from.

This being said I really like the partnership that Fiat and Chrysler is forging. It is more of a partnership then the corporate take over that Daimler did in all things, but name.

This being said it seems good prudent to try and introduce a known name brand to tie to the car that carries some meaning.
