Have the opportunity to pick up an eclipse avx2404 for pretty cheap.

Anyone know anything about these? I'm pretty much a newbie in car audio.

How cheap is cheap? I was an Eclipse dealer when that model came out. I never have seen one in person though. That said, I am a big Eclipse car audio fan. I think the headunits sound great, but the ones I have are pretty high end decks at about $650 for a single din radio.

If the price is right, and the condition seems to be excellent it will probabally treat you fine. Make sure it will play MP3s if you need that. Eclipse was always behind the ball when it came to features like that.

My googling says that it also requires an adapter to do AUX input, which surprises me a bit.

Do you want it because it's double din or do you just need a cd player? If you want video, and want a double din that seems reasonable to me. If you just need a cd player and this seems cool, you can likely get a better used deck for that amount of money that's a video piece.

Well I want to put a system in my truck. Mainly sound quality is what I'm looking for.

But its a factory double din size and I hate the way it looks when you put a single din in the double din hole.

Also would like to do the whole setup for a reasonable price.

what other head unit would you recommend?

Also what surround speakers/amp combo would work well.

Okay well if you definitely want a double din then the Eclipse would be a fine choice IMO.

Is this for your lightning? What size speakers are stock, do you want new or used and how much were you wanting to spend roughly?

Yes it is.

I believe they are 5x7 or 6x8.

And less than a grand if possible.

Are you wanting to do a sub? That's a standard cab truck right?

I haven't decided yet. It wouldn't have to be much of one I wouldn't think cuz its such a small space.

Yes regular cab.

I built a huge box with 3 12" woofers in it for one of those trucks years ago, the kid was super short so he could drive it. I had my knees rammed into the dash. That said I don't remember what all there is for space, especially if you are tall.

There isn't much. And I'm 6'4".

That said I could put it behind the passenger seat but I'm not sure I could get a box with enough air volume to make it work right.

Yeah, you are just a bit taller than I am. I would skip the sub if you can live without it, fitting something that sounds good in there would be a chore. A very shallow single 8 box could work but it would need to be custom. If you do need a custom enclosure made, let me know.

As far as speakers go, I am a bit out of the loop as far as what's sounding good nowadays. If you are going to buy new go check out the local offerings and give them a listen. There is a lot of preference variation when it comes to sound.

Oh and definitely plan on running an amp on your interior speakers. It will really wake them up and improve the sound quality. I see good four channel amps on CL with some regularity for 100 bucks and under. Let me know if you want me to go find one for you online.

I remember when Phoenix Gold was just kinda average! Looks like they've come along a bit.

The older stuff was good even into the late 90s. They have churned out a lot of crap though. But, fwiw, I am pretty much convinced these companys don't redesign shit. They just stick a different shell on the same damn amp and charge more or less for it from year to year.

i kept the custom ported box from my old crew cab. its pretty slim & has two 10" impp's, ran an old mtx blue thunder 752 & sounded pretty good.

its 5.5" thick at the top, 7" thick at the bottom, 17" high, 52" wide. it fit behind the rear seat very nicely. lmk, it might fit in ur truck.

also have the panasonic cq-vd7001u from that truck if u might be interested.

Nice. Gotta have tunes!

I wonder how they are testing that amp for the 94%. I smell padded numbers some how.

x2 on an amp for the front speakers....

Well in case anyone still cares I'll provide an update lol.

Got the sub/amp head unit installed yesterday.

Combo is a memphis mojo 12 in a ported box with an mtx 7801. Head unit is an older kenwood single din. And decided to put this in my dd focus.

Started tuning and ran into the first problem. My 2 gauge power kit came with a 60 amp fuse...so that lasted about 30 seconds. Had to run out and get some bigger.

Second problem is that I have found every prostate exam on a focus that can rattle.

Good news is that its pretty ridiculous. Its been a few years since I've messed around with this stuff. but I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

Which brings me to my next question. I would like to add some dyna mat our whatever its called to at least the trunk. Is the brand name stuff the best? Any tips for installation? Cheapest place to buy?
