its really not hard to do if you take your time. the harder part is getting the inside of the rim but with your rims its kinda hard to see in there anyways.

Not the Z06 badges, but there are some nice carbon fiber corvette emblems for the front and back I was looking into, but I have a bunch of other things I want to address before I get there because thats a really small detail.

I'm going to follow those instructions to a tee. Those wheels turned out awesome. I really wish I could see them in person tho...

technically you have seen them in person...a bunch of us have painted our wheels...lol...

gotta wait til temp outside is warm enough to help "bake" the paint on the wheels...you dont want that shit to come off after all that hard labor. lol...

and i thought about it like you did, paint them first...if that turns to shit, THEN ill pay someone to have them powdercoated.

It seemed like his process was a bit more thorough than what we did with Tye's so I would like to know how they are holding up in comparison. No biggie tho, I'm gonna wait for some warm weather and get it done! Smile

thanks guys. it was a pain in the ass cleaning up that one rim, but most of the pits came out. I know I could have done a better job, but I'm ok with how it turned out.

the other 3 looked way better haha

hmmm this is the only picture i have with the center caps actually on the wheels.

haha i probably shouldnt have, i looked for a replacement but they were made in the mid 90's and just dont exist anymore in that size. They are OZ Saturns, 17x8.5 They got hit with steel wool, then sanded with 220, then 600. Then i sprayed primer, hit it with 1000 and then sprayed the gloss black. I could have sanded a lot more, but this isnt a show car and its just a DD, so making em look better than nothing was all i was after.

If you are painting yourself, a self-etching primer will help to keep the paint on the wheels longer. Also, a dollar store set of playing cards is a real easy way to keep over-spray off of your tires to help keep things clean.

PostSubject: Re: Powdercoating   Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:44 pm

so i emailed her asking about it and this is what i got!

"Yes, I've been at All-Color Powder Coating for over three years now. And yes, we do coat rims. They need to be sandblasted first, which we do not do. We can take care of it for you or you can bring them in already sandblasted which saves a little time and money. For standard colors like black or something that would not require a top coat, the price for powder coating is $50 per wheel. If you choose something that would require a top coat it would be $65 per wheel. If you want us to take care of getting them sandblasted I think it would add another $25 to $35 per wheel. Your best bet is to go into the office and check out our color samples that are hanging in the office and then talk to someone about pricing at that point since Mark and/or Michael have the final say on pricing. I am out of the office for several more weeks, but you can always call and someone can answer your questions. All-Color's number is 835-9118."

tim i know you said you could get it done somewhere else for 25 a wheel? i bet for the money your getting good service at all-color.

Call Monroe truck equipment in Monroe. I sent a friend there with 4 steel wheels, they blasted and powder coated them for 100 bucks total. Not sure if they will give you the same price but I dought it would be a whole lot more.
