PostSubject: Good to be here guys - I`m in the 5th year of my middle-age crazy stage   Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:04 pm

Hi everyone,

I`m old, old as dirt compared to a lot of you, but don`t think that means I know much.

I teach , swim, try to not get fat but still enjoy life. Beer and wine are good. I think I`m getting too old for the hard stuff, or perhaps I`m just out of practice?

I start a lot of sentences with "I".

What do I know? I like cars. Fast ones and ones that clearly show someone sees more than seats and a steering wheel, as Turkish put it. Still, some are just daily drivers - we need them too.

Currently a 2002 Saab 9-5, 300zx tt and 96` Eclipse GSX inhabit my garage and driveway. The wife has taken the Saab as hers, which works for me.

She likes the GSX more now that it reeks of unburned E85 instead of pump gas. Still, I`m the one that wants 400whp, not her. Shocking.

To be honest I`m torn about the GSX. It`s pretty stout with an HX35 setup compliments of Mr. Peepers, and I haven`t run over anyone with it yet, but it
does seem to be a bit superfluous now that the 300zx tt showed up. Not that the 300zx is as fast as the DSM, it isn`t, but the Z is such a CAR compared to the
GSX. More usable power, more panache, better build quality, more toys on it, insane handling capabilities, t-top-ness, etc etc. Yes, the 300 does have
the capability to be as fast too.

Should I keep the GSX or sell it? Maybe you guys can help me figure that one out.

Currently my main car goal is to get the 300zx dynotuned so that it`s a bit closer to achieving its potential, and I`m a bit more certain that it won`t blow due to a crappy
a/f ratio, timing, etc.

Currently the 300zx has:

87.7k
All big ticket maintenance done recently.
9 or 9.5/10 interior and exterior (a bit of paint is off the front bumper - gotta love 91` paint/plastic technology)
auto with IPT tranny and converter. Just 4 speeds, that all you get.
Greddy SP2 exhaust/no cats
popcharger (single)
balanced crank and some machining of the block by previous owner
ceramic coated pistons (for heat)
Howe radiator
Profec type S EBC
SPL coilovers
615 injectors
upgraded SMIC`s (ebay)
Stock healthy turbos. Tiny, but at least there`s two of them.
A Z1 chip for all the breathing and fuel mods listed
As of now it goes around with about 12psi and a bit of boost spike (1 extra psi for a few hundred rpm). Up modestly from the stock 9.5 psi.
oldschool Sportmax bronze 5 spoke rims 17 x 8`` and 17 x9`` with 245/40/17 and 255/40/17 (new Hankook v12 rubber)
Big brake upgrade (Gspec performance 12.6`` slotted and drilled rotors up front, stainless/teflon lines, Stoptech street pads, Dot 4 fluid) - not on the car yet.
Really nice aftermarket sound system

I`ll try to post some pics, but like I said, I`m not too sharp at this and that. It`s good to know your limitations. "Link?" Where`s "attach". Grr.

Let me know if I can be of any help (within reason).

Jack

Hi Overboosting,

I think I saw you before the run with Peepers. I mentioned not breaking anything or getting caught, if you`re who I think you are.

Fast and clean Wrx. How do you not get hassled about the exhaust? Nice and loud!

Jack

Dammit Cong, you beat me again. 2 days earlier in joining a forum is like .5 mph extra through the traps. Loving the EVO by the way. Your car pulled in a crowd while my slushbox 300zx got no love at all! Must be them rims...do they have a good offset for a 300zx? Do you have locking lug nuts? Smile

To 408 4 eye - Panache is just for starters. I got a million of em`. Liberal arts major. What can I say, the degree is finally paying off. That, and my wife is 2 feet deep in GRE test books. P.S. your avatar boing-boing girl has got my nether regions going all turgid.

Hahah, thanks for the intro!

If you are into 17" wheels mine would fit on your 300 nicely.

Anyway, welcome!

The Z sounds very nice and I have always been fond of them. What you you have in the stereo department?

Hey Tusk,

The 300zx has:

A Pioneer Premier headunit (not sure what year). I have the book for it somewhere.
Phoenix Gold r804 amp
and dual 12`` Boston Rally Series subs in a box made of 3/4`` MDF. On top is a McIntosh amp: MC427

Currently I don`t have the subs in the trunk, but I plan to test it out soon.

I think the strengths of the system (w/o subs) include very high clarity in the mid and high range, at low or medium volume. Bass isn`t there much w/o the subs of course.

I`m nowhere near an audiophile, but I`m convinced that the stock 6 speaker 100+ watt stereo in the 2003 350Z I had sounded like the speakers were packed with dryer lint by comparison.
