Im looking at a 2003 audi Allroad, automatic, 2.7T. Anything i should look for? It has 90k miles on it, air ride still seems to work perfect, no ABS right now, brake light is on, car fax is clean.

I don't know much about them but people seem to wet their pants about making sure the timing belt maintenance is done on time on those motors. so I would suspect that's a problem area. I know maintenance in general seems to be a big thing on german vehicles.

It's maintenance sensitive. If it hasn't had it's 60k mile maintenance and it's well over 75k, don't bother. And it's an even bigger problem when ppl go cheap on it like not even replacing the water pump and just replaced the timing belt. I don't even want to touch an Audi because I know ppl are cheap as fuck when repairing them.

From the ones ive seen come into the shop, they are costly to fix and not the most reliable thing out there. They like to do things just to be different, simple things like changing tranny fluid on them can be a real chore if you dont have the right tools. Just my .02. If you do get it id take a real good look underneath to check for oil/coolant leaks, just about everyone Ive worked on has been leaking something.

Lol maintenance is everything on German cars. If it's been done, wonderful vehicle. If it hasn't prepare to lose every dime you have.

Is the brake light flashing, or is it on solid? Sometimes people mistake a faulty wheel speed sensor or faulty ABS module for a cracked ABS tone ring on the axle (usually the rears crack. You can find a new tone ring off of an 88-92 Audi 90 front axle at a junkyard). The Air ride stuff can be replaced with A6 coilovers or a conversion kit from Arnott Industries.

At 90k you are 10k past due for a timing belt if it hasn't been done. I've done them before. It takes about 8 hours. The ZF transmission in the cars aren't known for problems, so at least that is in the clear. People also complain about the window regulators, but $20 for new clips and 30 minutes of your time and they are fixed.

The only real problem area on the cars (as mentioned before) is the air ride system. If the car has not been ran for a day or two and there is a corner sagging, then you know there will be (big) money spent. Otherwise they are quite comfortable daily drivers (assuming ALL maintenance was done at scheduled intervals).

the brake light is flashing and the abs is solid. When i pulled codes, i cant remember the exact numbers, ill have to get em monday when i get back into work, but there were like 4 codes that pointed to communication issues with the ABS module.

the ride height control works... when it wants to. nothing sags, never loses air, but if you try to manually adjust the height, the light will flash for the level desired, and then after 30 seconds kick off. the compressor kicks on but nothing happens. then all of a sudden it will work if you try later. if your at the 3rd height it does kick down to level 2 when you get moving so it seems like its functioning, just when it wants to

The brake light is flashing and the ABS light is solid on my A4, and it is the module. You can get them sent out and rebuilt by module masters for a few hundred (dealer wants 1500). You can ditch the air stuff for regular A6 suspension parts fairly easily. There are several write ups on how to do it.

If the timing belt/water pump hasn't been done, you're in for a rather steep set of initial repairs with the ABS stuff and ride control module issues. If you have your heart set on it (allroads are beasts in the snow), I would ditch the air ride, send out the module for repair, and do the timing belt if it hasn't been done. Those 3 fixes are around 2 grand right there in parts alone. (1200 to ditch the air ride, 400 for the module rebuild, and 400 for the timing belt kit)

well, it has all the maint records. Hasn't had the timing belt done, but everything i've read says 105k miles for it. Once this springs rolls around and I have the mustang back up and running, i'll tackle that in a weekend. other than that i did pick it up, drove it to Minnesota and back this weekend, and the thing is fantastic. Had to go down some back roads that wern't plowed over there and it handled em like nothing. I'm happy with it so far, we'll see if my mind changes when i blow an air bag in the suspension or something lol

I got the car into the highest ride height while at work today, all the air bags are arnott inc bags, so it appears they have been changed already.

Tons of people say 105k with the timing belt, but that is REALLY pushing it. 80k is what most change it at. I would also put in a good synthetic oil, since most take the oil out to 7500 miles (I wouldn't go over, but plenty people do). The passenger side turbo on the cars does have a higher failure rate than a lot of other stuff in the car because of how the factory oil feed is, but your risk goes down if you change the oil often.

If may seem like a tall order, but they are wonderful daily (winter) drivers if you stay on top of the basics.
